has awarded a division of (NYSE: GD) a $136 millioj modification to a previously awarded contract to continud the system development and demonstration phase of the Expeditionaryh FightingVehicle (EFV) program. General Dynamics Land Systemsa receivedthe contract. Units of the division in severa cities, including Tempe, will providwe the required materials, services, personnel and facilitiesa to complete the design and development ofthe EFV. They also will perfornm various studies and manufacture and test allSDD prototypes. According to General Dynamics officials, the EFV provides cross-country high firepower, high water speedc and optimumcrew protection.
General Dynamics was named the EFV'x prime contractor in 1996. All work is expecteed to be completed bySeptember 2008. Production of more than 1,000 vehicles for the Marines is set to begin in 2005 and continudinto 2018.
